Qigong is a practice people discover and then quietly wonder where it's been all their lives. You'll leave this weekend with a practice that actually calms your nervous system — and one that you'll keep using.

Dr Margaret Macky is a retired medical doctor who came to qigong through her own chronic back pain — and stayed for the 25 years since. She has trained with Zhineng Master Wei Qi Feng and taught internationally, but she rarely offers in-person retreats in New Zealand. This July is one of those rare occasions.

The setting is Strathean Retreat Centre — 10 acres of open farmland edged with native tōtara forest near Ōtaki, just 50 minutes north of Wellington. A genuinely quiet place.

Over two days you'll learn the beautiful flowing qi forms of the Zhineng tradition and sit in guided qigong meditation — a practice that works with the body's own energy in a way that's hard to describe and easy to feel. No experience required. No particular fitness level. Just two days away from your usual pace.

If you've been curious about qigong, or you simply need two days that feel genuinely different, this is the one.

About Dr Margaret Macky

Dr Margaret Macky came to qigong in the late 1990s through her own experience of chronic back pain. As a medical doctor, she was well-placed to be sceptical — and well-placed to recognise, once the pain was gone, that something real was happening.
She has since trained closely with Zhineng Master Wei Qi Feng, qualifying as a Mingjue Gongfu teacher — a practice rooted in a deep consciousness state that she describes as qigong's most profound dimension. For four years she has taught an international audience through the World Consciousness Community, with intensive retreats in China and online courses reaching students across the globe.
Now retired from medicine and living near Takaka in Golden Bay, Margaret devotes her time to practice and teaching.
